How Often Should I Get My Oil Changed? How Often Should I Get My Oil Changed?

Typically, most vehicles require an oil change every 3,000 – 5,000 miles. Not all vehicles are the same, and not all engine oils are the same. So which type of oil change should you get, and how often?
Two Types of Oil
Conventional (Non-Synthetic) Oil This is the standard, petroleum-based oil that is offered at most oil change locations. Typically, new cars will come with conventional oil as it helps during the engine break in period. Conventional oil and oil changes are very affordable, and offer great value for good engine protection. If you using conventional oil in your vehicle, be on the safe side and get your oil changed every 3,000 miles.

Synthetic Oil Synthetic oil is a more recent development as compared to conventional petroleum oil. It can handle more pressure and heat, for a longer amount of time. It is recommended to use synthetic oil if (a) Your car has higher mileage or (b) Your vehicle is a high performance vehicle. If you are using synthetic oil in your vehicle, having your oil changed every 5,000 miles is perfectly acceptable.
